What a wonderful week
Jun. 12th, 2004 04:34 pmI am continuing to enjoy my new job. Thursday was a very good day; I cracked a difficult problem as we approached the end of the day and I walked out of the office feeling triumphant and powerful. I enjoy the rush I get from getting the computer to dance to my tune; I regret that I stopped programming when I graduated from high school, almost 20 years ago (take that, CJ!).
Friday was another good day, although the problem I was wrestling with remained unsolved at the end of the day. I thought I had it working, but when I uploaded the program from my computer (where it was working perfectly) to the live server, it failed.
Friday evening, I left work and went to visit
heterodoxy for an evening of games and hanging out. He guided me through my first Lord of the Rings collectible card game and we playtested his Strip Scrabbleâ„¢ rules for the first time. I lost all of my clothing first, but won with the most points at the end of the game.
Apparently, after I lost all of my clothes, I would have slugged back a shot of booze for every additional round that I lost. Because I don't drink, he didn't enforce this rule, but devised a couple of new S/M options: each additional round lost requires the placement of a clothespin or a paddling, the number of strokes to be cumulative with the number of additional rounds lost. This morning, he updated the official rules for Strip Scrabble.
We rounded out Friday evening with an episode of the Simpsons on DVD, snuggling together on his collection of bean bag chairs, then we went to bed. I slept very well, despite being in a strange bed with a strange... er, unfamiliar body. ;-)
Woke up this morning very refreshed and attacked my office project while he went out running. I managed to find the solution that had eluded me, so I'll have good news for my boss on Monday. We played another game of Scrabble -- standard rules this time. I won the game again and this time I would have beat the pants off of him first!
todc showed up after his marathon training (12 miles!) and the three of us enjoyed fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and snuggled in a big cuddle pile. We separated about lunch time; they were going shopping, and I'm returning home to Baltimore.
Tonight, I'm having dinner with friends, then watching a play at the Spotlighter's theatre -- Batboy. I'm not sure what the play is like, except that it is the story of the Batboy that appears on the cover of the Weekly World News tabloid from time to time. Afterwards, I might connect with EGN for some quality time, but that's up in the air. He'll be joining us for dinner, but skipping the play.
