I rent an efficiency apartment. It's not that small, but I can still see all of my tiny domain in one glance. Waking up this morning, I was immediately suffused with self-satisfaction as my eyes fell on my desk, which is much less cluttered than it was just yesterday.

I'll be leaving for DC in just under two hours. I'll stop for lunch in Union Station, then I'll be joining DM for the afternoon and helping him set up a Christmas store display until late tonight.

I'll take a train home tomorrow to meet Louie for bowling in the afternoon. Louie's last email to me ended with, "we can also talk about finishing the project from a few weeks ago" along with the observation that he was writing from work. I'm of the opinion that he's suggesting that he spank me again after bowling. :-)

This will be the first time that our bowling team has had a full complement of bowlers present. We should have a good time.

More luck

Here's another anecdote:

Despite [livejournal.com profile] kenny73's gift, I'm not going to stop trying to conserve my funds. This morning, as I was walking to the train station, I began to regret not bringing along a bottle of water. I was planning on having lunch at Union Station, and a soda can turn a $5 meal into a $7 meal.

In the station, as I was approaching my gate, I noticed a bottle of water sitting all alone on one of the benches. The seal hadn't been broken, and it was even my favorite brand.

Today, I took advantage of someone less fortunate than I.

When I arrived at Union Station, I decided to lunch at S'barro -- their buffet looked attractive.

I filled my plate and got in line for the cashier. They were having problems with their computerized registers; they had to read the scale maunally and figure the total with a calculator.

The cashier, Yolanda, was having a hard time. My meal was .73 pounds at $5.49 per pound, which works out to $4, excluding tax. Yolanda poked at the calculator, getting increasingly frustrated. She finally announced that I owed $3.45. I paid $5.05 and she gave me $1.50 in change.

I didn't point out that she had neglected to offer me my receipt, which entitled me to a free meal, but I did accept a price that I knew wasn't correct.
