Friday night I joined Mike G., Ed B. and Mike D. for dinner. We went to a Japanese restaurant named Matsuri. We had a good time, but I really didn't enjoy my meal. Out of curiosity, I ordered the Grilled Roll Combo. I suppose I expected that they would prepare some sushi rolls and then grill them, but they turned out to be sushi rolls made with cooked fish, which of course has a much different flavor and texture. It was okay, but not what I was expecting.

Afterwards, Russell joined us at Mike G. and Ed B.'s home in South Baltimore just a couple of blocks from the Inner Harbor to watch the fireworks from the deck on top of the house. We had a fabulous view of the Inner Harbor skyline and the fireworks display. Afterwards, we sat around and chatted for a bit before Mike D. drove Russ and I to our homes.

I took the train into DC Saturday morning and then caught the Metro to Forest Glen to meet up with Rob and Mike. They had emailed earlier in the week to ask me to help out with the New Year's celebration they were having that afternoon. I helped before the party mostly by just staying out of their way, since it was enough to have two people trying to put the finishing touches on a party without someone else who didn't even know where anything was.

People started showing up, and I met them at the door, pointed out name tags, food and drink and took their coats if they were wearing one. Many had no coats because of the exceptionally nice weather.

I suppose that I hadn't really prepared for the party, because I wasn't in a very outgoing mood. I find that I have to consciously intend to be more extroverted in advance or I tend to revert to type. Extroversion is easier for me these days, but still isn't my natural mode. Almost everybody was a stranger too me and I found it hard to connect. Fortunately, there were some friends there and I still had a good time.

One person that I had met before at Doug M.'s Thanksgiving Open House was Bob S. We flirted for a few moments and then I took him upstairs and commandeered the master bedroom for a few minutes. Bob planted his heel against the door and we made out, preventing anybody from getting the full house tour for a few minutes. We giggled together as people realized the door was blocked and continued with our business.

After everybody left, we started picking everything up and putting the house back into a semblance of normalcy before a nice soak in the hot tub with flutes of champagne (and sparkling cider for me). After the hot tub, we sat in our towels before the fireplace and watched the fire die out, then retired for the night.
