Whoops!

I woke up this morning to an email from the client asking me to move an order from this week's deliveries to last week's because he filled it last week.

Instead, I moved every order to last week. Almost two hundred of them. Ouch.

I immediately turned to my local backup of the database and created a file to correct the problem, which wiped out the order timestamp as well due to another mistake. I finally got things worked out and corrected all of the orders except the five most recent. I corrected those manually from the information in the email notifications I get sent every time a customer makes an order.

I hope this will teach me not to make updates to my databases immediately upon getting out of bed. Hmph. Probably not.

I love my apartment. I moved in on April 1 last year after I broke up with Russell. The high-rise apartment was $865 a month for a one-bedroom. It had some nice amenities -- utilities included, fitness room, pool, 24-hour staffed front desk, laundry on every floor -- but I couldn't really afford it. And while I had no indication ahead of time, I was laid off two weeks later. I do miss the view of downtown from the sixteenth floor, however. I did save pictures to remind me.

This apartment is an efficiency. It used to be the dining room when this building was a single-family home. There's a lot to like about this place:
  • it has hardwood floors, with a simple little border around the edges
  • it has a marble fireplace, although it's no longer functional
  • a nice high ceiling, with molding around the edges
  • a walk-in closet that extends in under the staircase for the building
  • it's just five blocks from Penn Station, where I can catch MARC and Amtrak trains
  • it's also convenient to the light rail, Metro, buses
  • it's in Mount Vernon, so there's a lot of stuff in walking distance
  • the Inner Harbor is just about a mile and a half away.
  • there's a huge mirror over the mantle that is about six feet tall, covered with scrollwork and flowers, all painted gold
  • despite that it's an efficiency, it has a separate, full-sized kitchen!
  • it still has the original ceiling medallion, although the fixture is gone, replaced by some nice, but forgettable chandelier
  • the kitchen has a private exit to the alley behind the building; I don't often use it, although Russell likes to use my back door
  • heat and hot water are included; electricity is about $25 per month
  • rent is just $500 per month
Really, the feature that sold me on the place was the kitchen. Efficiencies usually have some tiny galley kitchen, but this one is a good size. Since Russell cleaned it up for me, I've been having my lunch in the kitchen. I prepare a sandwich or something and sit at my little gate-leg table and read a book or the paper by the light coming in the windows. It's very relaxing.

I just gizoogled my own journal. The results are very amusing. Here's a quote from this morning's entry:

"I hope this will teach me not ta makes updates ta mah databizzles immediately upon weed-smokin' out of bed with my hoes on my side, and my strap on my back. Hmph."
