Self-satisfied and having fun
May. 6th, 2005 12:50 amI've been really enjoying myself this week. Working from home is making it easy to avoid spending money on food — my only food expense this week has been the $15 grocery trip on Tuesday. It gives me a nice self-satisfied glow.
I suppose it seems a little mundane, but preparing a meal, leisurely enjoying it with a nice book and cleaning up afterwards seems very relaxing. It makes a virtue out of a necessity, since I need to watch every penny.
The good news is that my boss has mailed a check to me for about $700. It's not a full paycheck, but it's what we had in the business account, and it's more than enough for the spending habits I'm trying to cultivate.
I've got fun stuff planned for this weekend. Kirk has somehow arranged a private tour of the Walters Art Museum here in Baltimore for a small group. He invited me to join him and offered me the opportunity to invite a guest, so I invited Doug M. We'll tour the museum beginning at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow evening, then have dinner someplace. Doug will stay overnight with me before he heads back home Saturday morning.
I had planned to go with him to some yard sale, but Russell asked me to help him with an exhibit of a few of his antique gas lights at the Carroll Mansion downtown. I think the Rushlight Club is in town and they're meeting there for lunch, so I get some free food out of the deal. Russell mentioned crab cakes. :-)
Then I'll meet John T. to join him and his friends at Camden Yards for the Orioles game. I don't often go to sports events, but I'm happy to go and spend time with my friends. I'll just have to avoid spending money for concessions. That shouldn't be difficult, because we're all meeting at John's house to eat before leaving for the game. I'll feel as fat as a hobbit; I wouldn't be surprised if they have second lunch as well as second breakfast.
The Baltimore Farmers Market is now open on Sundays, just a few blocks from my apartment. I'll walk over there Sunday morning to see what they have. If I have any cash, I may buy some produce, but that may have to wait until next week.
Finally, I'll probably drop in on the HIV support group Sunday evening.
