Funds!

I haven't been monitoring my finances at all recently, so I was very pleasantly surprised when I checked my bank balance and realized that I had over $2,300 in my checking account. I confirmed that, yes, my rent and insurance checks had cleared earlier this month, and then I sat down to pay some bills.

After paying the bills, including paying off the Visa, I still have $1,420 in the bank. At this point, I was seized with the idea of finally purchasing a new digital camera, just in time for the weekend, but this morning I've got a better idea.

I'm going to reserve my spot for CBE II in October and I'm going to spring for an Airport Express. These are two other things that have been on my wish list for a while. I don't plan on paying the entire fee for CBE II just yet, but I'll have my name on the list.

And I'll still have money to cover rent and insurance this month.

Time to bug my boss for the next paycheck.

Weekend plans

Doug M. is driving up to Baltimore from Arlington this evening. Ed B. will get a ride from Bob R. to join us. D.M. might come along for the ride as well. We're all going to cruise Artscape tonight. Doug's sister Janice and her husband Austin will be joining us as well. Doug, Ed and D.M. will sleep over at my apartment. (Time to bring out the air mattress!)

Tomorrow morning we'll have brunch at Morning Edition, then head back to DC. I'll sleep over with Jeff M. tomorrow night, then wake up bright and early Sunday morning to embark on a canoe day-trip on the Shenandoah. I'll sleep over with Jeff again that night and return home Monday morning.

I just stepped out to grab my lunch. Wow! What a nice day! I hope it stays like this through the weekend! I'd love a day like this for canoeing down the Shenandoah River!

I saw a house for sale just a block south of my apartment. I wonder what they want for it?

Crazy, Man

There are crazies who bomb subways, then there are guys like this: Victimes Say Naked Man Breaks In, Tickles Them.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Police in one Florida community are on the lookout for the naked tickler.

Investigators believe one man could be responsible for a series of bizarre break-ins.
Victims said a naked man has entered their rooms while they were sleeping and tickled their feet. The naked tickler struck again in New Smyrna Beach this past Saturday and Sunday.

Investigators have been working on five similar, unsolved cases since 2001. Most of the victims are women over the age of 60.

Officers said they haven't made an arrest yet because they don't have a lot to go on.
