Why do meterologists hate America?

The rainy weather has put the kibosh on the camping plans. In addition, Doug M. is still feeling under the weather himself. I don't think he's getting enough rest; he's playing catch-up on things that he couldn't do while he was suffering.

If it clears up later, we may camp out Saturday night. (!Ir)Regardless, I'm going to DC tonight to meet up with Jeff. He and I will find something to do tomorrow. Maybe a hike?

Reading the newspaper accounts, Bush's latest speech seems a little — I don't know — strident. But I'm sure that if I actually watched the video, he'd seem almost reasonable; that's the old "speak softly" technique, I suppose.

In fact, we're not facing a set of grievances that can be soothed and addressed. We're facing a radical ideology with unalterable objectives: to enslave whole nations and intimidate the world.

No act of ours invited the rage of the killers, and no concession, bribe or act of appeasement would change or limit their plans for murder.

Really, is "enslave whole nations" one of the terrorists' goals? I'm ignorant of what their goals are, actually. I've got my ideas, but I've never seen a copy of the "terrorist agenda."

And the next bit nicely releases us from any responsibility whatsoever to pursue any means other than war to resolve things. Nothing we did made them mad, and nothing we do will make them stop being mad.
