I'm feeling pleased with myself
Oct. 24th, 2005 11:57 pmC2 class is over, so Barry and I started our new schedule tonight by attending Ett's C1 club night. We were initially a little anxious because we've been skipping C1 for the duration of the C2 class, but we eased right back in with no difficulties. That is, we didn't screw up any more than we used to.
I threw together some sauce for my pasta again tonight, and this time I remembered that recipes seem to call for a little sugar, so I tossed in a small bit. That made all the difference! Yummy! After scarfing down the pasta, I fetched a spoon to scoop up all of the extra sauce! This is something that I wouldn't mind serving to my friends, and I can always toss in some sausage or ground beef or something if I wanted.
So let's tabulate the check for my dinner tonight:
Green pepper, $0.60
Onion, $0.38
Mushrooms, $0.38
Tomato sauce, $0.33 (on sale — three for a dollar)
Pasta, $0.75 (on sale — four for three dollars)
I've used less than half of the green pepper and the onion for my two sauce experiments and I've used half a mushroom each time. Let's divide each one by four to get the cost of each meal. That works out to $0.34. Let's do the same with the pasta: $0.19. Add the tomato sauce to that, and my dinner tonight cost a grand total of eight-six cents. Plus I get the satisfaction of cooking for myself. :-)
Part of my eagerness is that I've worked the dirty dishes down to the point where almost everything is clean, so I don't have to confront any cleaning chores in order to cook dinner. I can just walk in and start slinging things around. See? Procrastination is costing me money!
I think I'll grab some eggs and cheese tomorrow and make an omelet for dinner tomorrow night. Then Wednesday will be grilled cheese and soup again, because I have carrots and potatoes I have to use.
