My weekend.
Jun. 6th, 2006 04:33 pmLet's see if I can recount my weekend.
Saturday, I did indeed get up and make my way to the R.E.I. store in Twinbrook. I wandered through the camping equipment and supplies, compiling in my head the list of all the stuff that I needed. Miniature rolls of duct tape? Sure! A camping pantry that conveniently fits in a camping cookset that I don't own? Wonderful! I actually had three or four little items in my hands within five minutes.
Then I put them all back. I do not need all of these things. At least, I don't need them all now. In the end, I purchased some personal items, since I expect that my camping trips will be accompanying more experienced campers who will have much of the other stuff. I purchased a swiss army knife, a knife pouch, some camp soap ("18 uses in 1!") and a super-absorbent yet lightweight camping towel. Now I'm a hoopy frood, or whatever, because I know where my towel is. I also purchased a copy of Backpacking magazine, so I could dazzle myself with still more gadgets. These five items totaled $72.88 with tax.
Eric wasn't able to join me for our movie date. He hurt his back the night before and decided to stay home to give it some rest, so I watched An Inconvenient Truth alone. It's a compelling movie, and some of the reviews I've since read in climate change forums indicate that the science is pretty much spot on.
Saturday evening was another bridge night with
grok,
mai_neh,
gregmce and Roger, who was the Bridge newbie for the evening. Tod and Doug's home has really come together. Everything is so stylish! I really envy those that managed to snag one of the decorating genes, because I didn't come equipped with one. The evening was an absolute blast, and I got to be the first to sleep on Tod's new sleeper sofa in his office rather than returning to Jim's house to attempt sleep with fumes from the floor staining going on.
Sunday morning, I woke up at 6:45 a.m. I read a little bit from Tod's library before getting an invitation to snuggle for a while, which was delightful. Then I got up for a shower and the boys dropped me off at the Metro so I could get on with my day.
Mickey and I had planned to go the the museum on Sunday, but he was feeling under the weather and decided not to join me. Then I got a call from Jim telling me that he would be in Sunday evening, so I dropped the museum plans in favor of tidying up the house for his return.
After Jim arrived, I headed out to Silver Spring for dinner, then Eric met up with me and we watched X-Men III before going back to his place for bed.
