- Your hands should be empty. If you're holding something, try to put it down or ask a friend to hold it for you.
- If there's a difference in height with the person you're hugging, don't try to bend over or stand on your toes to adjust. That always feels awkward.
- Avoid the "A-Frame" hug. Straight guys do this. They try to keep daylight between their groins. Also awkward, and not as much fun.
- Make it last a little while. It's surprising how long a ten-second hug can feel. Take a moment. Take two.
- Remember: hugs are a renewable resource. Share them liberally.
