Russell called me yesterday to remind me that it would have been our fifteenth anniversary.

I wished him a happy anniversary, but I don't think he understood it or appreciated it. To me, I don't think there's anything wrong to continue to observe the date, even though we're not still together. We do still have a relationship, after all.

Maybe this just underscores that I'm past it and he's not. I keep reminding myself that I was essentially past it when I broke up with him, so I've got an unfair head start.

In fact, I'm intrigued by the notion of observe anniversaries for all of the relationships in my life. It would be an opportunity to celebrate each of my friendships at least once a year.

I sent my first hubby a Happy 25th Anniversary card on Jan 12, 2004. :-) We split up in October, 1993. He did appreciate the fact, but never would have thought of doing that himself. He's the first man I was ever 'intimate' with, and also was my partner for nearly 15 years, so it was an important date for me.

Yes, I agree that anniversaries are important. I mean, Beethoven's birthday is still being celebrated, and how many years has HE been dead?

Well then there's 359 days until we can celebrate our friendship :-)
