Mood: Contented
Jun. 10th, 2004 08:42 amYesterday was a great day.
Work was great; I turned out code faster than I have to date. The client had emailed my boss with some significant changes to one of the pages, which required a reworking of the code. My boss and I discussed it a moment, with him proposing one approach and I proposing a different one. He liked my thought, then sat at my Mac and made the necessary changes to one of the core routines. Then I had to fix everything that relied upon it and figure out what he had done so I could make the same changes to a similar routine. I was a little apprehensive upon reading the client's request, but my boss and I really did well; we made this significant retooling in about an hour and now that core routine boasts added flexibility.
For another project, my boss asked for my input in approaching a chat system. I proposed a system that relied upon nothing but HTML, PHP and MySQL. Half an hour later, he had a working prototype. It took him another half an hour or so to put it on our live server on the Internet, but then we were chatting with each other. It's mind-boggling to me that we can put together a bare-bones chat system in an hour, but we did!
I was scheduled to attend an HIV support group here in DC last night and then go out for dinner with one of my friends, but the meeting was cancelled, so I went home to Baltimore. My friend and I decided to make a date of the evening, so I went over to his apartment where we ordered pizza and watched "Lost in Translation," which reminds me very strongly of "Remains of the Day" in that the true drama is in the portrayal of the characters and not so much in the action. "Lost in Translation" is a movie without a lot of punctuation; not very many places where the energy of the movie rises. You get a very real sense of feeling trapped, just like the characters. I didn't read any reviews of the movie, but I can imagine a lot of people feeling bored by it.
I nearly fell asleep. Watching a movie while snuggling with a gorgeous man on the couch in a dark room makes me very relaxed. After the movie, we smooched for a little bit and made rolled around a bit, then he drove me home. We knew that we didn't have a lot of time after the movie, so we just enjoyed holding each other without frantically trying to fit everything into the time allotted.
