Serenity in motion
Sep. 4th, 2004 05:18 pmI've got wheels for the weekend!
Linda is a woman that I used to work with at the Baltimore non-profit. She has invited me and some other folks who used to work there to her home in New Windsor, Maryland for a cookout tomorrow afternoon. She also would like to see Russell, so he and I have rented a car for the weekend to make the trek out to her place tomorrow. He doesn't drive and I don't have money, so he's paying for the vehicle.
Since we had a car, we went out for breakfast at the Bel-Loc Diner and then stopped at Trader Joe's, because we don't get out to Towson very often, then met Ett back at Michael's house, where Russell is renting a room.
While we were visiting, I stepped back out to the car to get my pills, where I was asked by a guy named Wayne if I knew of anyone that needed a painter. I replied that no, I didn't know of anyone in the neighborhood that did, but that I was just visiting. He thanked me, then told me that he had asked me because I had a very 'kindle" aura, which means "kind", he explained. (I don't know if that's the proper spelling or not.) I thanked him, and he made his way down the street.
Just a couple of days ago, Berel told me that he thought that I had an "uncanny" ability to maintain calm, and last month Cinder told me I had a "calm aura", but now some random guy on the street is commenting on my aura -- and he didn't even ask for money! Weeeeird!
I think what I'm projecting is serenity -- "a disposition free from stress," according to the wikipedia. I make an effort to minimize stress and enjoy myself most of the time. When I got home I found the full version of the famous Serenity Prayer:
God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.
I really like the second verse, which I had never heard before.
Then I took a nap. :-)
