LJ Catch up
Nov. 17th, 2004 01:00 pmMonday after the weekend in West Virginia was pretty much of a waste. I failed to turn on my alarm Sunday evening, so I overslept Monday morning and missed my train. I decided to work from home, but I found it very hard to concentrate -- I had neglected my sleep Saturday night by staying late at the bar, then staying up until 3 am to complete Endymion. I didn't get enough sleep Sunday to make up for that.
Also on Monday, my boss asked me to estimate how much time I would need to complete my current tasks with this client, because they wanted to move on to another project. I estimated about twenty-four hours. He met with the client and returned with the decision that they would allocate fifteen, which included commenting the existing code and documentation.
This really sort of sapped any remaining motivation I might have had to work on that project for the rest of the day. I did do some work for another client, but I still had trouble concentrating.
Yesterday I did better, having got more rest the night before, and made good progress. I did work for two clients and some overhead stuff. Robyn came by and gave me about $1,000, which included the reimbursement for the weekend expenses.
Last night I accompanied my bowling buddy, Michael N., to the monthly dinner group in Howard County. Michael was startled to find that I actually knew a couple of the men there already. "You know everybody!" he exclaimed, ignoring the fact that I only recognized two out of about twenty men. :-)
Dinner was very nice, and I greatly enjoyed the company. I'm looking forward to going again next month.
Work is going well today. I've just about completed one of the major tasks and I'll be moving on to the other before doing the docs and comments. I also deposited the checks today as well as the $150 I got from Neiman Marcus, so my bank balance is briefly above $2,000. My goal is to make sure the balance doesn't drop below $750. Wish me luck. ;-)
