I had a lot going on this weekend.

[livejournal.com profile] todc and [livejournal.com profile] mai_neh skipped town for the weekend to a resort in West Virginia called The Guest House at Lost River, near the Lost River State Park, so I happily agreed to take care of Lucy and Edwina for them.

I worked at home Friday, so I hopped a train in the evening to DC, intending to head out to their house without stopping to linger, but Russell called me while I was still on the train and we made dinner plans. We ended up having dinner at a Japanese restaurant with his friends Dan and Nancy, a married couple.

I last saw Dan when I came into DC to see the Cherry Blossoms. He was with his mom, Wilma. Both of them were tooling around the Tidal Basin on Segways; Wilma was riding Nancy's Segway. Russell likes to say that Dan has a horseshoe up his ass. When the Segways were being introduced, Dan attended a demo. When the demo concluded, a drawing was held among the people there and Dan won the demo model. He didn't even know there would be a drawing!

After dinner, I headed out to Doug and Tod's house to pamper the dog, avoid the cat and watch episodes of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Enterprise. Then I went to bed. For the first time, Edwina curled up on the bed and slept with me. She was very fussy when I jostled her!

I had plans for Saturday evening: Russell and I were going to Annapolis to see Suede with his co-worker, Sue, and her husband, Rich. Our friend Michael agreed to loan us the car for the evening so I wouldn't have to spend the money to rent one, so I had to return to DC and catch a train back to Baltimore to pick up the car.

The concert was wonderful, as always. Sue and Rich were very impressed. Suede performed a couple of new songs and announced that they had enough new material to head into the studio to being cutting the new CD. After the show, I talked briefly with Suede. I had instructions from her to make sure she knew who I was so I could collect a hug from her. She's a wonderful person!

Russell and I drove back to Rockville to make sure Lucy didn't explode. We watched the Enterprise episode and went to bed, because we had to get up early this morning to drive back to Baltimore and return the car to Michael by 8:30 a.m. so he could go to church. At the last minute, Russell wanted to do some grocery shopping, so we managed to squeeze that in.

I schlepped my groceries home and took a nap before rising for lunch. Then I went to bowling with Louie. This was the last week for bowling and Louie's team lost every game, despite playing against the vacant team. Sigh. After bowling, I got an offer of dinner from John and his partner Glen, which was nice. I got to watch the same episode of Star Trek for the third time! :-)

So there ya go. If I had a bulleted list, it would appear that I didn't do all that much, but it was all so spread out that I was busy much of the time!

I bought a new song tonight. We were listening to a Rascal Flatts album, "Feels Like Today," as we were driving from bowling to John and Glen's home. The last song on the CD is "Skin" Click here for lyrics ) As soon as I got home, I looked it up on the iTunes music store and had it downloaded.

It's a beautiful story about struggling with disease, but more than that, it's struggling with the fear of how others will treat you, then finding out that there are folks that will still support you and love you. Being surprised, delighted and grateful when they don't react as you feared. Like falling and being caught, safe and sound. Realizing you weren't really falling at all.
