I quite thoroughly enjoyed myself over the weekend in Rehoboth. The only way I could have had more fun is if I had managed to get laid. ;-)
The schedule included a C2 workshop Saturday morning, so I made sure I was there on time. Workshops are for dancers who have completed the level, where the caller picks a couple of calls to pick apart and show the dancers what you can do with them, but I figured it would be good for my C2 studies to sit in.
As luck would have it, they didn't have the eight people needed for a full square, so they recruited me to complete it. I was dancing in a C2 square, keeping a close eye on my opposite and trying to do everything he did. As soon as another C2 dancer arrived, I ducked out and had them take my place. I got more of a lesson than I expected, but I acquitted myself well, garnering compliments from the other dancers.
I filled in a few more C2 squares over the weekend when there weren't enough dancers, and I even declined a couple of squares because I could see that they didn't need me. I guess I was good enough to get by.
Saturday evening is the banner dance — the high point of the weekend. All the callers are up on stage, and everybody dresses up in their club uniforms or something equally fabulous. The banner dance starts at 8:00 p.m. and runs through 11:30, and I danced every tip during that time. I danced continuously for almost four hours. I was higher than a kite! It was absolutely wonderful! I felt incredible! Afterwards, I returned to the room, where we played cards for another two hours. Even then, I had a hard time getting to sleep because I was so wired.
More challenge dancing Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m., and there I was, ready to go! I did start to flag about 10:30 or so, and I drifted around without doing much dancing, although I did manage to rev up for the last tip of the weekend, which was a lot of fun.
Bridge traffic back to Baltimore was a mess, as it is every year. I slept in the backseat a lot.
