I can't say exactly when, but I've realized that most — if not all — of my problems are due to my own actions — or inaction. Not that I think that I have a lot of problems. But HIV? Check. Decreased income? Check. Insurance uncertainty? Check. An apartment that resembles a Neanderthal's cave? Check.
Call it Karma.
(Actually, the boss and I are enrolling in a new health insurance plan. My premium will be slightly less expensive than my current outlay. And my apartment is looking much better these days!)
What I just figured out is that this might be true for others. It certainly is for the Bush administration.
For myself, this underscores that I am responsible for the solutions as well. Because these things didn't just "happen" to me, that implies that I have the power to solve them, or at least mitigate their effect. I find that comforting.
