I saw the latest Harry Potter flick last night and I wasn't impressed. The editing really suffered in this offering, in my opinion. I understand that they have to cut some things out to get a movie that you can sit all the way through, but I don't think that they did a good job, especially at the beginning of the movie.

And I don't like all the long hair in the movie. Fred, George, Ron and Harry all need haircuts! I suppose that wizards have a certain image -- witness Dumbledore -- but it's not a good look.

Best line in the movie: "What's got your wand in a knot?" One of the other guys in my group and I giggled to each other over that!

I also enjoyed the moment where Cedric Diggory suggests to Harry that he should hang out in the Prefect's bathroom. It was a very homoerotic moment for me. :-)

My evening

I was intending to wander around Tenleytown today to explore the neighborhood, but I just hung around the house, reading and napping. Paul S. called in the afternoon. He's going to be spending the night with me in Baltimore Monday and we had to work out the arrangements, which became a little more complicated given that I'm going to be working at a client's office in Herndon that day. Ick.

Before we rang off, Paul invited me to join him at a potluck dinner this evening organized by the DC chapter of Black and White Men Together. I had a little trouble getting out of the house because Lucas was hiding from me. Christian and Jon close the dogs up in their bedroom when they leave the house, and I suppose he didn't want to go. Eventually, I had to tempt him upstairs with doggie treats and shut him and Gracie in before he made a break for it.

I stopped at the neighborhood Safeway and picked up some cajun crab dip and two boxes of crackers on the way to the metro station, then managed to board the train going in the wrong direction. I still managed to arrive at the party only thirty minutes after it began, however.

I had a great time. I met lots of new people. Of all the men there, I only knew Paul and Lorenzo. It was definitely a holiday potluck, with turkey, ham and stuffing. My crab dip was a big hit. Several people complimented me on it; I managed to deflect them by owning up to the fact that I had simply purchased it. Still, it's better than bringing something that nobody enjoys.

One of the men, Scott, asked me how old I was. When I told him that I would be thirty-eight next month, he was very surprised and remarked that he would have believed that I was still in my twenties! I gave him a hug and a smooch for his charity. ;-)

Rob got the position in Martha's Vineyard, so he and Mike will be moving up there early next year. I'm happy for them, but I'm going to miss them and the animals. I'll be house sitting again for them in early December while they make another trip up.

Eric will be hit harder, because he counts Rob, Mike and I as his only friends that he's made since he moved into the area. He definitely needs to get out and make more acquaintances. I keep encouraging him to hook up with the heart circle or the adventuring club. Perhaps now he'll make the time.

I'm sort of leaning towards going into DC tomorrow to the National Museum of Natural History. They have a Darwin exhibit that sounds interesting.
