So I've still got this project hanging over my head that has to be complete before I start my new job. Mike is paying Robyn for me to work on it for one of Mike's clients, which happens to be at the company that I'm going to work for.

Anyway, I met with Mike and the client yesterday to show them what I have. The short story is that I got agreement from both of them that I have met my objectives, but the client is going to spend a couple of days testing it. If my work passes, then I start work on the 23rd of January. Otherwise, I hang on until Feb 1. I'll be calling the client on Tuesday to find out how the testing is going.

I'm very confident that I'm done with this thing.

I took the opportunity to briefly meet the HR guy and pick up my new hire orientation packet. Wow. I've never had a job where they hand you an application for the corporate American Express card first thing. Lots of other benefits too, including discounts on equipment from Apple and no-interest loans for computer equipment. The combination of those two things may be dangerous.

So my financial future looks bright, but the present sucks. I have $182.00 in the bank. Robyn made a deposit for me on January 9, but it's gone missing. He withdrew $500 in cash from his bank and deposited it at my bank. However, there were no tellers available, so he was advised to put the deposit in an envelope and drop it in a box or something, which makes me want to scream at him. You don't drop off cash! You give it to a teller! If there's no teller, you don't make a deposit! Anyway, because he put it in a box, he has no receipt. We have no proof it was ever deposited. I'll call the branch today, but I'm not confident. :-(

Also sucking is that my cable has been disconnected, so I'm using dialup this morning with Russell's EarthLink account. I'm sure the cell phone will go soon as well.
Good news is that I have eight trips on my pre-paid commuter train ticket. I have about ten dollars on my metro SmartTrip card. I have food here in the apartment, and I'm current on my rent. I'm going to dip into my bank account to pay the electric company.

I'm sure that Robyn will get some invoices paid in the next few days and I'll get some funds. He owes me an additional $1,465, not including this last pay period ending today.

A month from now and things will be completely different.

Update.

It turns out that Robyn dropped my deposit at a Citibank. Citibank is not my bank.

Robyn is at the Citibank now, where they are trying to find the deposit.
