Kitchen bliss
Mar. 8th, 2006 09:56 pmDinner tonight was breaded chicken breasts, homemade mashed potatoes and carrots with a butter and brown sugar glaze. Very yummy. Leftovers for lunch tomorrow, I think.
I still get a thrill out of grocery shopping and cooking. I don't know where it came from, it's very new to me. I love going to the grocery store and perusing the sale circular and stocking up on sale items. This evening, I purchased ten unique items (although I might have purchased multiples of an item). Six of them were on sale.
I spent $1.97 on chicken breasts, and I'll get four portions from that. Five pounds of potatoes, $1.89. A pound of carrots was seventy-nine cents. My meal tonight would probably cost out at around a dollar. That simply thrills me.
I feel like I'm finally beginning to hit my stride in the kitchen. I don't make complicated meals, but they're tasty and nutritious.
The one thing I'm reluctant to do is stock up on foods that must be frozen, like meats. For some reason, I haven't utilized my frozen foods in a timely manner in the past, so eventually the food had to be tossed. Now I just buy fresh stuff, but I think I should train myself to freeze food and remember to actually use it.
Now I have to go take my meds and wash my dishes before going to bed for the night.
