I'm thinking about why I haven't been posting my journal recently, and I think it comes down to two things. First, I'm not using my computer at home very much these days. After sitting in front of my office machine during the day, I'm not prone to sit in front of another at home. Second, I think that there are things that I'd rather not examine too closely, and I'll leave it at that.

I regret that I haven't continued with my entries, so I intend to make an effort to make it a habit once more. I think this means either taking a few minutes to post during the day at work, or sitting down and writing at home.

I'm house-sitting for Jim in DC again this weekend, watching over his cats, Leo and Dinah. I actually haven't slept in my own bed since I left for my holiday in Florida with my parents on December 20. I came back from Florida on the 26th, when Dakota met me at the airport and we stopped briefly at my apartment before going back to his place. Then I moved to Jim's house on Friday.

Dakota and I watched the film Notes on a Scandal this afternoon at the Landmark in downtown DC. Judi Dench gave an amazing performance. I hugely enjoyed this film. Dakota met me at the Lambda Rising (I wonder if Lambda Rising is grateful for their status as a landmark -- there must be a few people each day that say, "I'll meet you at Lambda Rising") and we walked down to the Landmark at 11th and E. After the movie, we walked back, so we got a fair amount of hiking in today. Then he had to return home; he's picking up his housemates at the airport this evening.

I picked up a sarong in Baltimore on Friday on an impulse (I took a trip into town to visit my apartment and pick up a pair of eyeglasses from the optician) and I've been wearing it around the house. I like it. :-)

I also purchased a new sleeping bag today. I've been using a twenty-dollar sleeping bag that I bought in the spring of 2005. (At the time, I didn't know if I'd be camping on a regular basis, so I didn't want to make a big investment.) In November, I joined Jeff M. and Jerry C. on a backpacking trip up Elliott Knob in Virginia. The temperature that night was twenty-six degrees in the valley, and we were at least 2000 feet above that. That made me realize that I needed a new bag. One that was warmer, lighter and would pack smaller. I'm very pleased with my selection -- it compresses to something about 20-25% of my old one. Jeff is trying to organize another trip in January and I'm hoping I'll be able to join him and use my new bag.

No plans for New Year's Eve. I thought we had an invitation to a get-together, and I had Dakota's agreement that we would go, but then I discovered that there was no event at all. I apparently made it all up. I was going to wear my new flannel shirt, too.
