Spring cleaning
Mar. 19th, 2007 11:39 amDakota and I spent the weekend at my apartment in Baltimore for a change, with the goal of a little spring cleaning. He hides it well (or maybe not), but Dakota is appalled at how I neglect my personal living space.
We got right into it Friday evening and continued working thru Saturday. Nine boxes of books, almost entirely sci-fi, were donated to the Baltimore Book Thing, a community book exchange, leaving four boxes of my favorite books to put in my new bookshelves, which were also ordered this weekend. A down comforter, digital clock/radio, down and fleece throw, two duvet covers and some towels and linens were set aside for donation to the GoodWill. Dakota took some sweaters home for office wear. The kitchen and bathroom got a better cleaning than they've seen in the past three years.
In addition, I recently sold my Bose 3-2-1 stereo system and television to a square dancing buddy. The television stand may follow, but right now it makes a good spot to lay out papers and magazines. I also have a small rolling computer desk that I'm giving to Russell, whenever he comes to take it away.
Hm. It just occurred to me that I have more books squirreled away in the television stand, behind the display of DVD titles.
We've been spending most of our weekends at Dakota's house in Forest Glen, so it was a nice change to have him in Baltimore this weekend, especially after the kitchen was cleaned up. We had a homemade pizza for dinner Saturday night, and a steak dinner Sunday night.
Sunday was lazy. There was early-morning love-making and a simple brunch. We ventured out for a walk in the afternoon when Dakota complained of going stir crazy, but we didn't venture far from the apartment while we waited for a call from Dakota's ex, Jay, who drove us and the books up to the Book Thing. After dinner, we played some Mille Bourne and listened to a comedy internet radio station before going to bed.
My ex, Russell, and my boss, Dayle, both said the same thing when I told them about my weekend, which was something like, "What did you get rid of?! You don't have anything!" :-) Russell still can't get over the fact that I got rid of my television, despite not owning one himself. Dayle seems to think I'm some kind of ascetic, although I can still have boxes of junk that I haven't opened in over three years. If I'm supposed to ditch things I haven't needed in a year, I'm overdue.
Hm. Maybe I'll donate my old tent and area rug to the GoodWill too. I have no intention of ever using that tent ever again.
