I'm appalled. Absolutely appalled.
I subscribe to the PozBaltimore Yahoo! group for folks in Baltimore with HIV. About once a week, an electronic newsletter from The Body pops up in my inbox, and I usually ignore it. But today, I clicked on it to run through the headlines.
The first one, "Fighting Denialists: Is It Time to Throw the Gloves Down?" seemed interesting. Almost immediately, I find out that ACT UP San Francisco has declared that HIV doesn't cause AIDS. It's right on their website! It's just incredible!
Taking a look at the other articles on their AIDS page and you find the same crap: that AIDS is caused by malnutrition, stress and long-term drug use. Personally, I always find this to be insulting, because the implication is that people in African nations are starving and homosexuals in America have been snorting cocaine and shooting heroin for the past twenty years. If your immune system is suppressed, then pick option A, B or C for the reason why.
I have no idea how this could have happened to an organization founded to fight AIDS and HIV. It's simply amazing.
