I'm back home after attending a square dance weekend in New Jersey hosted by the New York Times Squares.

I had a great time, despite hardly dancing at all on Saturday. See, I started that morning, and got a brief, sharp pain in my right ankle early on. I danced a short while longer, but decided that it was best to stay off of it. Dakota injured one of his feet recently and exacerbated it by not resting it, so that led me to be a little cautious. I blame myself for not bringing my leather-soled boots to dance in. The dance halls were all carpeted, and rubber-soled shoes don't slide, so it's much harder to pivot, stressing the foot. Fran complained of back pain that she blamed on the carpet.

So the high point of the weekend for me was playing games. I had brought my Icehouse pieces and taught Dave and [livejournal.com profile] deege to play Martian Chess at the party Friday night, although Daniel didn't actually play -- he just advised Dave from time to time. After the party, which was broken up by security for noise -- darn rowdy square dancers! -- I retired to my room and then inflicted the game on Fran, my roommate. Then, after dancing was over Saturday night, Fran and I found Dave at the bar and we played Chrononauts -- a time-travelling card game -- for a couple of hours.

I did dance a little more Sunday morning, but I kept favoring my right leg, which threw off my stride and my concentration. Not that I actually felt any pain from it, but I was wary of hurting it, and it did ache very slightly from time to time.

Oh, I also had an excellent masasge Friday night. Very relaxing. Emad, from the Times Squares, was accepting massage appointments and splitting the proceeds with the club.
