Nov. 3rd, 2007 11:59 amRussell woke me with a phone call this morning, asking if I'd like to have breakfast with him at Howard's Deli. Howard's has a simple menu of good food and it's inexpensive -- my western omelet was about $3.75. Granted, it's not one of the huge four-egg omelets, but those are too much for my appetite, anyway. Our breakfast together was $11.84, not including the tip.
Unfortunately, they were letting the place slide this morning. The food was still good, but most of the tables hadn't been cleared when we arrived. It didn't make a good impression. The waitress there knows Russell by name, but she still let us sit for minutes before she came to get our order, and I had to remind her that I wanted a glass of water.
After breakfast, we went to the local barber, The Beatnik Barber. I had decided that with the cold weather moving it, it was time to lose the curly mop. (When it's cold, I'm more comfortable wearing a cap, but the mop doesn't look good afterward.) There were three chairs working at one time; the shop was very busy. I managed to walk in at a lull and got a chair immediately. Russell had to wait a few minutes.
My barber was absolutely adorable. I've admired him on my previous visits, but he's never cut my hair before. It was tempting to stare into his eyes while he trimmed my beard. :-) He gave Russell and I a glimpse of what I'd look like with a mohawk, which would be fun to wear, but probably prompt a talking-to at work about professional appearance, or some such.
And the patrons who arrived after we did were all very woofy! Including another redhead who looked like he didn't need anything trimmed at all. As I remarked to Russell as we left, I have to get my hair cut more often!
