Apr. 26th, 2009 10:54 pmIt's amazing to see the reactions to the flu news. It's a weaponized virus, escaped from a lab in Maryland. It's those illegal immigrants. It's the Obama administration pushing the panic button to scare us all. It's going to kill everybody.
One comment claimed that Obama had fired the CDC director and the Surgeon General when he assumed office, so we were left without leadership that would manage this event. Except that we haven't had a Surgeon General since the end of July, 2006, and we've had the same Acting Surgeon General since October 2007. Except that the CDC director was asked to resign by the outgoing Secretary of Health and Human Services before Obama took office. Obama didn't fire anyone in either of these positions, but folks will force anything through their own ideology.
And the flu seems to be spread by air travel so far. Many cases are linked to people who travelled to Mexico, not illegal immigration. I doubt the xenophobes even read the news that they're commenting on.
