White Chicks is sold out?!
Jul. 4th, 2004 12:51 amWell, Friday night was a blast! EGN wasn't able to make it, so LK and I travelled to Arundel Mills to see White Chicks at the Muvico Egyptian. To our shock, White Chicks was sold out! We had no idea the Wayans brothers were so popular!
Many other shows were sold out as well, so we settled on the 9:30 showing of Spider Man 2, which gave us about an hour to kill. LK treated me to dinner at a nearby restaurant; he's such a sweetheart. The service was quick, the food was good, and I quite enjoyed our dinner conversation.
Spider Man 2 was a fun flick. It spent a lot of time exploring the problems in Peter Parker's life -- falling school grades, Aunt May's finances, wet dreams involving Mary Jane... wait, that last part wasn't in the movie. Sorry. If you've seen any of the trailers, then you know that these problems tempt him to abdicate his responsibilities as Spider Man.
The setup of Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus) was very well done. I never read the comic version of his origin, but I can't imagine that it was an improvement on this.
I have two quibbles. First, there was sort of a dream sequence with Peter's Uncle Ben, which I found to saccharine, and Spider Man saves the day for a trainload of commuters more reminiscent of Super Man. Other than that, I had no complaints. The movie was thoroughly entertaining, which is all I really ask.
Afterwards, LK and I beat it back to the city. I wasn't planning on a 9:30 show, so I hadn't taken my evening HIV meds, which meant that I couldn't hang out. He's still recovering from surgery to install a permanent shut for his dialysis, so I doubt he was up for much anyway.
So I got home, took my pills and fell into bed. Zzzz.
