Here's a neat site: Sorry Everybody. It's a collection of photos of Americans apologizing to the rest of the world for the recent election. Hundreds of photos.

Cruising

My boss has asked me to seek out job leads for him to pursue, so I've been checking out job listings on monster.com, dice.com, washingtonpost.com, fedbizopps.gov, etc.

I've also been looking for jobs on craigslist.org in Baltimore and DC. I've never looked at craigslist before, although I've read news stories about its success.

I also discovered the craigslist cruising classifieds, and it's interesting clicking on the different ads. I've given up on online dating years ago, so this is the first time I saw the phrase 'disease free' and realized that they meant me. Their loss.

I actually emailed someone who posted an ad in Baltimore. He had shared that he liked to play pool, but wasn't very good at it, so I invited him to play pool with me, because I'm not good either. He's looking for a long-term relationship, so I told him I wasn't on the same quest, having just broken up with Russell.

He did indicate that he'd like to meet new friends, so I'm definitely up for that. I've been meeting lots of new friends from DC, but not so many in Baltimore, although I have my current social group.

I didn't tell him that I have HIV, but I did give him a link to my journal. It's the closest thing to an online profile that I have. :-)

Today's commutes were pretty painless. My morning train arrived in DC a mere ten minutes late and my evening train arrived in Baltimore about twenty-five minutes late.

I was pretty pleased with my work today, especially when the client asked me to drop the coding for the import tool, which was the priority, to focus on manually importing a few hundred contacts for one of the organizers right away. I accomplished the job in about half an hour, furiously typing SQL to import the records and doing some simple quality control on the data, standardizing state postal codes, removing duplicates, etc. I came up with a streamlined bit of SQL on the spur of the moment to assign the records to the region system the client is using.

In fact, I was very pleased with the speed at which I accomplished this emergency task. I'll be incorporating the quality control techniques into the import tool to automate some of the easier tasks.

I have my weekly square dance tonight, so I need to make some dinner and change into something more relaxed for the evening.

I got home at a reasonable hour tonight, thanks to not-completely-unreasonable- considering-the-circumstance delays. However, after fluffing for ten hours Saturday night and moving around in Kirk's bedroom, I was a little tired. So I laid down in bed "just for a little while" and woke up to find I was forty minutes late for square dancing. Grrrr.

For a moment, I considered just going back to bed. After all, I'll be dancing all weekend, right? I squashed that impulse, jumped up, got dressed and headed out.

I'm glad I did. As always, dancing is a fantastic fun time. Brian and Kent, our student callers, are making noticeable improvements. Dayle, our club caller, is masterful, as always. My friends are always fun and we always have a good time, even if we're not necessarily dancing what they're calling!

As I was crossing the street, I picked up a copy of the latest Metro Weekly. I saw a quote from the Money column earlier in the week that I wanted to remember:

"Finally, don't procrastinate. It's natural after a devastating event for people to avoid dealing with issues that remind them of their situation. Fight that urge."

So it's understandable that I was avoiding my medical bills after I found out I had HIV. Then I was avoiding my medical bills because they were all late. Then I was avoiding my medical bills because... they were still all late. At least it's all understandable.

Brian made me an invitation to join him and Kent for Thanksgiving. I have a feeling that I'll have more invitations than I can accept.

I'm so looking forward to this weekend in Harpers Ferry!
