I always enjoy the first night of the fly-in. When I arrived, I was greeted by several of the dancers with hugs and kisses. Of course, as more dancers arrived, I could greet them as well. It's like a big family reunion.

After my brief rest after dinner, I joined my friends on the dance floor and had a wonderful time. My friend Ett is on staff this year, but I didn't manage to dance to her tonight.

After dancing, I got an invitation to join Michael M., Brian and Kent in Michael's whirlpool bath, which was never designed to hold four grown men at once! After a while, we moved to Michael's bed and had a wonderful time, which was delightful after my wasted day.

I haven't done any dancing yet today. After breakfast, I decided to return to my room for a little quiet time, reading Endymion and napping -- just spinning down from everything.

I was awakened by my pill alarm at 1 pm. I quickly consulted the schedule to confirm that they stopped serving lunch at 1 pm. I briefly considered skipping lunch because I really wasn't that hungry, but i can't take my afternoon pills without food, so I ran downstairs to find that all the food was still laid out. I sat and talked with a few of my friends while I ate and now I'm going to take my pills and shower, then go dancing!

I danced for about an hour and a half of TNP (Take No Prisoners) Advanced, then a tip of TNP C1. During the advanced hour, we started with two squares, then, as the number of dancers dwindled, we began to "tap in," where a couple will wait for the completion of the current figure to replace a couple in the square, who then moves to the next square to wait to tap in.

Then we started dancing TNP Advanced as siamese dancers, where two dancers perform as one, holding each other by the waist. Finally, the caller, Tom Miller, had us dance a "six pack" where we had six couples instead of four, with two couples at each of the head positions. All of this while dancing TNP Advanced, which means the caller uses especially difficult and fast choreography. We all had a fantastic time!

I'm going to take a break to head outside and snap some photos before dinner.

I don't have my laptop with me this weekend, so I'm writing my journal entries in longhand on the back of whatever paper I can find. I'll be backdating each entry as I transcribe it into my online journal.

I've recently realized how enjoyable it can be to sit with paper and pen; it seems a much more intimate activity. There's a pleasure in the feeling as the tip of my pen glides across the page. Unlike typing, writing with pen and paper encourages you to slow down, lest the writing be undecipherable, even to its author.

I enjoy reviewing my writing, even with all of the inevitable mistakes -- which I am unable to simply remove with the backspace key. I can imagine years of handwritten pages, bound in handsome volumes. What a treasure that would be!
