Dreaming

I was on a vision quest, dressed as an American Indian. I walked into some sort of museum, a road side attraction. I climbed the ramp before me and came into a large square room, where along the walls were displays of animatronic figures.

I stood before a group of flowers. "Hello," I said. "Hello," they replied. I asked another figure who he was and I got a vision that looked like a 1950s cartoon that featured a lion competing with someone else in some sort of puzzle. I greeted a figure of Pluto the dog and he responded.

I heard voices below, so I turned to climb the ramp into the next room, but the way was closed. Instead, I ducked into a side room. I found a long room lined with pallets for sleeping. On the nearest was a small indian boy, stretching and blinking his eyes. He smiled at me and I saw other indians moving about the room, all dressed in brightly-colored clothes. The voices behind me were other indians, entering after me.

A man was there in buckskins. He nose was hurt. The tip was sort of clipped off and I could see the flesh beneath. I can't remember his story, but as he told it, he died. I felt his bowels release over my foot as he died, and I pulled him into my arms, crying. He had been their shaman and his apprentice said to me, "because of who I am, because of what I see, I know that I was not meant to save him." He called the shaman "puá" or "puí". I felt like he expected me to take the shaman's place.

I realized that I was wearing a blindfold. I had been wearing it even while I was speaking with the indians, but I could still see them all with clarity. I touched it, wondering if I should remove it or if it was part of the vision quest. As I considered it, the blindfold began to seem gauzy, allowing me to glimpse light shining around me.

Then I realized that I was awake and the covers of my bed were over my head. I sat up in my brightly-lit apartment.

Saturday evening I caught a cab from Penn Station to the home of John T. and his partner Glen in Halethorpe. John is one of my bowling buddies, although he doesn't play for the same team as Louie B., Michael N., Jason F. and David D. -- the team I think of as 'mine' even though I'm not bowling. :-)

There were lots of people there -- all John's family or neighbors, as near as I could tell. His mom and dad were there, as was his brother and sister-in-law. I don't know all of the relations, but they were all genuinely nice people.

Louie B. showed up with his friend Jeannie in tow. They had been to a show of belly dancing. After greeting them, I returned to the movie, but I was soon asked to leave it to come socialize. I switched off the movie and discovered that party had shrunk to John, Glen, Michael, Louie, Jeannie and I.

Santa had to have another visit, since Louie hadn't been in attendance for the first one. John missed that one too. We continued to talk for a while, but we soon had to go too. Michael offered to give me a ride home, which I happily accepted.

I gave Jeannie a big hug in farewell. She looked up at me and confided, "you have no idea how much I needed that," so I gave her another one. A better one! It was a gift that I was happy to share with her. As I held her, I remembered [livejournal.com profile] kenny73's email telling me that he believed that I could heal people and I thought to myself that a hug is a small healing all by itself.

On the way out to Michael's car, I gave Glen a hug and a kiss and I got to hug Santa, slipping my hand into his pants to surreptitiously squeeze his ass. Ho ho ho!
