Dreaming Dogma
Oct. 13th, 2005 01:47 pmI'm on the train to DC again as I'm writing this. My boss called this morning to ask me to come in. He actually had called earlier, about 8 a.m., but I ignored both of his calls, first on the home phone and then on the cell phone. I was having a totally kick-ass dream and I was hoping that if I just hunkered down, I could return to it after the phone stopped ringing. Besides, it was probably Russell. Heh.
In the dream, I was battling Loki and Bartleby, the two angels from Dogma. Yep, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were in my dreams last night. I was holding my own against these two supernatural beings, but their wounds healed almost instantly. At one point, Loki lunged for me and I grabbed hold of their collar and dropped, flipping him over me to tumble down a flight of stairs, breaking his neck. It took him a few seconds to recover from that!
Then there was some sort of truce, and we went into the whole "the world will be unmade and none of this will have ever happened" thing. I remember sitting with Bartleby while he talked movingly of their estrangement from the Almighty. It brought tears to my eyes.
Then, somehow, the parts of the omnipotent angels were suddenly played by
grok and
lioncub and the terms of the drama had changed. If we were successful, time would be unravelled and I'd forget what had happened, but the world would go on. Like any one of three dozen Star Trek episodes. :-)
For some reason,
grok had rented a car on my behalf and it occurred to me that, after this was all done, I'd have no memory of events but I'd be stuck with a car rental bill. So I hit the angel up for money to cover the bill, which he produced out of thin air. I remember that the bill came to almost $300.
That's when Robyn's call came in, shattering one of the best dreams I've had in a while. :-(
When he finally reached me, I had about thirty-five minutes to shower, get dressed, pack up and head to the train station. I had planned to head into DC to meet Doug M. this evening anyway, so this rush was complicated by the need to pack for Friday and the weekend as well. I nearly forgot to pack my pills!
I'm going to see if Russell will come over to my apartment in the next couple of days to eat up my leftover pot roast.
